Last night at the TEAMM Masterclass my plan was to discuss how games like “Simon Says” are a slam-dunk for engaging kids in movement and having an absolute BLAST doing it. I didn’t expect to get into a discussion about skip techniques, but we really got into this territory, analyzing different ways to skip and how to use them in our classes. I love it when we find new areas of discussion outside of the original plan! This post has the FULL video from last night’s TEAMM Masterclass. But first…

Don’t miss my session at PMEA on April 18th!!!! If you’re a Pennsylvania Educator, you really MUST come watch my session. It is going to be some pretty trippy research I’ve been doing into phenomenological aspects of flow in elementary students….
Also check out my session on April 27th at the upcoming NAfME Elementary General Conference!

It was great to re-examine and expand on some of the ideas from the LEGENDARY short course from the Fall. It is such a rich topic and full of possibilities. Creating compelling games that not only engage students but contain powerful opportunities for discovery is THE BEST way to #Win in your classroom.
I wasn’t expecting to get into an in-depth discussion on skipping technique, but it did seem to be a popular subject! Skipping is a HUGE Dalcroze technique and it is important to address it intentionally. When you ask kids to skip, they are often rather thoughtless about it and will just skip as fast as they can. When you make them focus on specific skip techniques, it is MAGIC and their skipping gets INFINITELY better.
