TEAMM All-Star Rebecca is a fantastic vocalist and Dalcrozian who has some really thoughtful things to say about how movement can have a huge impact on vocal performance. There are some wonderful techniques shared in the video, and some great philosophical musings. Don’t miss the video below and upgrade to the TEAMM to get access to more great content! But first…

Summer Vacation!
So a friend of mine sent me a text kind of out of the blue asking a very general question about Dalcroze and its application for traditional instrumental teaching. Rather than text a lengthy response I simply called her back (which is my custom, I would rather speak on the phone than text). Turns out, she was at a conference and I ended up giving a some…
When we say “The Body is the Instrument,” this is a revelation for many instrumentalists… they tend to be much more focused on their technique, on the actual vibrating strings or column of air, and not as much on how it manifests in their feeling body. But SINGERS are much more accustomed to thinking about their body as an instrument. How do we differentiate between vocal technique, movement technique, internal musicianship, and external expressivity? Does there even need to be a difference?
This talk was completely organic, and much of it was not things I had thought of previously. This is a really great example of “Thinking Out Loud” and discovering things in the moment. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
We also gave a shout out to my friend Patrick Cerria and his great book “Finding the Flow.” Patrick is an amazing teacher who specializes in students with special needs, and we talk about his work here. Don’t miss the video!
